A couple stands together in a vineyard, surrounded by grapevines under a clear blue sky. The man wears a red shirt and the woman wears glasses and a vest. They appear smiling and content.

Narrow Window Wines is the personal vineyard and wine project of Oregon Viticulturist Joey Myers and his wife, Kathryn.

Joey is a second generation winegrower with over two decades of experience working with Oregon’s most elite vineyards and winemakers.

Kathryn joined him at White Cloud Farm in the Spring of 2020.  She has a background in teaching, but also has experience gardening and vegetable farming, and quickly picked up on the growing methods in the winepatch.  Her family also shares a love of gardening and winegrowing, as her grandparents kept their own small vineyard in Saratoga, California, from which they produced wine for friends and family.

Growing up in one of Yamhill County’s largest farm families, Joey always held a keen interest in farming and history.  His interest in winegrowing history and research pushed him to explore different training methods and growing systems throughout the world, and to question the ways that many vineyards were being trained in Oregon.  In 1999, his father Joel Myers began trials to explore different row and vine spacings with the goal of optimizing labor inputs with yield and fruit quality.  Together the Myers family and their company, Vinetenders developed a modified high wire Sprawl system that achieved their goal of streamlining the amount of labor and inputs needed to produce high quality winegrapes.

Joey and Kathryn partner with Jay McDonald of EIEIO Wines to produce and cellar their wine at his winery on the neighboring hillside outside Carlton.  Jay is a long time family friend, and has a history of making fine wine and supporting small producers in Oregon.

If I spoke every word

as a blade of grass

my speech would be

common as sunshine.

Listen to this

quiet music

shameful clover

solemn shadow

Or the will to build

A narrow window

Only for the pleasure

of peeking through
